Shortly past an intersection with spur trail leading left up to the Castle summmit, on the way to the intersection with the primary Castle Peak trail.

Spotted this group of young birds huddled alongside the trail. Not sure if their nest was blown off by the storm or if they were just waiting for the winds to die down. (Stellar Jay chicks?)

The Castle/Basin ridge cleared briefly (though not the Basin summit itself) and was quickly reshrouded.

Had I planned Saturday's outing better (or at all) I could have just taken the trail from the Castle Pass to Andesite, rather than the Hole-in-the-Ground trail.

Not sure which plant was causing it, but something smelled strongly of citrus along the forest road. It started raining steadily on the last half mile or so before my car.
