 Pine Ridge and Bear Basin
13 or so mile Lollipop loop hike from China Camp on the Pine Ridge trail to Bear Basin Camp, Pine Valley, and then back to China Camp. 2nd hike of the day- I'd joined some friends earlier for a sunrise ascent of Mission Peak

No cars at the trailhead this holiday weekend, though I passed a number of cars and horse trailers on Tassajara Road on the way in.

Very late start today (~noon). This was the first time in years that I'd traverse this section of trail in daylight. (This sign, and the one in the Church Creek Divide, overstates the distance to Pine Valley- its actually closer to 5 miles)

There was a major Pine Ridge Trail trailwork effort about 18 months ago and the vegetation was just starting to encroach on the trail once again. Trail was still in good shape tho- still no deadfalls between here and Divide Camp.

Looking back over at Chews Ridge. I think thats the observatory on the right. (The old lookout can barely be seen poking above the trees in the center of the horizen)

Beautiful crystal clear day looking down on the Church Creek watershed from the Pine Ridge Trail. South Ventana Cone is on the right of the horizen.

Winding downhill on the back side of the ridge. Still pretty dry up here despite the recent rains.
