 Big Pine Mountain
Looking back at the trail as I headed south along the ridgetop. The Sierra Madre road was a bit of an engineering marvel- It was in excellent shape and had only a gentle grade for the length of the ridge.

One of the numerous stands of yucca along the trailside. (The stalks long since dried out). Above, the half moon was visible for most of the morning.

Chokeberry Spring, about 5-6 miles south of the trail junction. The trough was full and I refilled my water and stopped to have a bite to eat. This was the only water available all day.

A small patch of deciduous trees were shedding their leaves for the season, leaving a brief section of the trail ankle deep in fallen leaves.
