|Long day hike from the Bridalveil Trailhead to Buena Vista Peak
Back in April, I had backpacked from the Chilnualna Falls trailhead in hopes of making it to the top of Buena Vista Peak.
A combination of the low snowline and the generally extremely wet condition of the area had me come up a bit short and I've
been meaning to take another trip to the area to complete the unfinished business.
Rather than repeat the climb up from Wawona, I took the somewhat longer (but much less strenuous) route from the
Bridalveil Camp trailhead. Left the bay area around 4:30am, got to the trailhead shortly after 8, and completed the 28 odd
miles in just over 13 hours. The late season weather was near perfect- clear skys and mid 70's in the afternoon.
I'm currently maintiaining the SummitPost Page for Buena Vista Peak: here
Sign near the trailhead. The trailhead is toward the back end of the campround, before the pack station. Hit the trail around 8 as the sun was beginning to climb above the trees.

The trail followed Bridalveil creek for the first couple of miles. Not much of a creek at this time of year.

Some new growth forest near the turnoff to Ostrander Lake. According to the Falcon Guide, the area is recovering from a 1987 fire.

Junction with a spur that leads over to the Ostrander Lake trail. These are the shortest trailsigns I've seen in the park, don't know if they were driven down or just sunk.

The trail passed through numerous small meadows as it climbed the ridge to the south.

Spotted this on the side of trail and haven't a clue as to what it is. Was about the size of a tennis ball.
Update: Checked with Michael Wood of the Mycological
Society of San Francisco who verified that it is a Sculpted Puffball fungus (Calvatia

After Turner meadow, the trail met up with my route from my April backpacking trip. (See this
album). Again took the clockwise route around the loop.
