Trail junction on the far side of the dam. 1 1/2 mile to Elwell from here.

Turning to skirt the lakeshore for a bit before starting the ascent up to the south Elwell ridge.

The trail apparently had been obliterated by avalanches in places and had devolved into a talus scramble.

Passed right below the summit but would spend another mile looping around via the ridge. (Not the summit itself in the pic, the highpoint was about 100 yards behind it)

Back off the talus onto trail tread, winding around to gain the ridgetop.
