Headed north to Sierra City for two relatively short outings near Gold Lake. The first of these was Sierra Buttes- a popular trail out of the Packer Saddle PCT trailhead. (5 mi round trip, 1600 gain).

After this outing, I continued up Gold Lake Road to tackle Mt Elwell from the Long Lake trailhead.

Together, these were my 24th and 25th Tahoe OGUL Peaks.

There was a large parking area along FR93 that I confused with the trailhead parking, so I added a couple hundred yards to the beginning of the hike as I followed the road down to the trailhead.

The Sierra Buttes summit was visible on the horizon.

The initial section of trail followed an old forest road to the top of the ridge. Lots of folks on the trail today.

At the top of the ridge, the forest road continued down toward the Tamarack Lack and the PCT turned off onto a single track.

A nice flat half mile heading south before the final uphill leg to the summit. Great views off to the N/NE side of the ridge down to the lakes below.

Was just able to start making out the lookout tower on the Sierra Butte summit. (Back and to the right of the highpoint on the horizen)
