The plan for the day was to travel from the Cone Peak trailhead to Cone Peak, bushwhack over to Twin Peak and then loop back via Hare Canyon and the Vicente Flat trail. For the first time in several outings, things pretty much went off as planned....
TL
Topo and GPS tracks from today's outing. Trip was counter clockwise around the loop. (The Vicente Flat trail deviated substantially from what was on the Topo. The map in Scheaffer's Book has the current route. Got almost no GPS reception in Hare canyon)

Cone Peak road between the Vicente Flat and Cone Peak trailheads. The road was passable, but muddy and partially blocked by fallen rocks in places.

Update: I put a nice big hole in my oil pan on this trip.

Almost from the start, the cone peak trail had stellar views of the Pacific ocean, 3 miles away and 3500ft below.

View of Twin Peak from the Cone Peak summit. Would soon be following the ridge over to the second peak. (And then following the ridge on the left down)

Old fire lookout on the peak. There was a military group (presumably from the nearby Hunter Ligget base) on the peak setting up some communication gear, attempting to radio a second group that I had seen earlier on Cone Peak Road.
