The outlet of Susie Lake. This can be a problematic crossing early in the season but was trivial today.

Looking across Susie Lake at Mt Tallac. Gilmore Lake is nestled below Tallac just out of view.

Dicks Pass and the saddle between Dicks Pass/Dicks Peak where I'd end up at the end of today's traverse.

Ascending past Heather Lake towards Lake Aloha and Mosquito Pass.

The trail skirted the north shore of the lake. My intention was to head offtrail near the inlet stream leading down from the south side of Jacks Peak. Thats the wooded slope just up ahead.

The stream shown on the topo was still flowing and I started up the steep talus slope next to it.

A couple of juniper bushes with berries that had somehow evaded the bears thus far.

The slope quickly granted an impressive view of Lake Aloha to the north, with the Pyramid/Agassiz/Price ridge beyond.

The initial climb topped out into this bowl and I had a pick of several talus chutes leading up. I opted for the most direct route up, which was chute on the far left of the shot.
