Fedak (w/ sand gaiters) on the Freel Summit. (For those keeping track, I did wear that shirt yesterday and no I didn't wash it)

Freel Peak sign and summit registry. Hawkins Peak in the distance. Like with the other summits, someone had cleaned out the registry and my entry from last week was missing.

Looking down the toward the TRT approach to Freel. (The two guys who took that picture are in the center of the frame)

I headed back down the east slope of Freel and decided to take a cross country route down the back side of the ridge into the Willow Creek drainage.

Deep sandy soil allowed kick step sand glissading. Each step allowed a slide of a couple feet. (Had to watch for rocks tho)
Nice view over to Hawkins on the descent.

I'm beginning to suspect that there are use trails everywhere in the Tahoe backcountry.

Looking back up at the descent slope. The soil became less sandy as the elevation dropped and eventually it became a forest downhike.

A quick hop across Willow Creek and another couple hundred yards over to my car and I was done. Little over 4 1/2 hours for the loop.
