The terrain transitioned abruptly from burnt chaparral to burnt pine forest.   The loam of dried dead pine needles was quite slippery in places.

Passing through a graveyard of dead young pine trees.   The pines were mostly still standing but one assumes that the next big winter storm is going to cause a lot of deadfalls.

The fire had actually improved conditions on most of the backside trail, as all of the larger downed trees were either gone or reduced.  The scenery took quite a hit tho.
