Kennedy Peak, second attempt:
I had planned this trip as a followup to my failed summit attempt in late September when smoke from the nearby Emigrant wilderness fires reduced the visibility near Kennedy Peak to less than 2000ft. Almost had to change plans when the snow storm hit, but 108 remained open just far enough to reach the trailhead at Kennedy Meadows.
The day turned out to be quite pleasant- It warmed up to the mid 30s after starting the day in the upper teens. There was no wind, few clouds, and the snow was mostly dry powder. Reached Kennedy Lake around 1:30 and it quickly became apparent that I wasn't going to have enough daylight to attempt the summit. Traveled a little ways up the canyon beyond the lake (slighty past the point I reached in September) before turning back.
First on the list for next season...
108 was chains/snow tires required from Pinecrest to Kennedy Meadows. Stopped along this stretch to put them on. The roads were clear by the end of the day.

Light dusting of snow in Kennedy Meadow. There was a lone fisherman fishing in the Stanislaus on my way out.

Virgin snow on the trail for the whole way. Here at 6500ft there was about 3-4 inches.

First view of Kennedy Peak through the trees in a small meadow along the trail. The peak drops back behind the trees for the next mile or two.

No cows today. The meadow before the lake was a bit marshy, and I had to pick a careful path that didn't leave me ankle deep in muck.
