12 miles and 3000ft of gain out of the Como Ghost town near Dayton, NV.

Most everything in the Sierra Nevada is still snowed it so I was looking for an alternative and Lyon fit the bill.

This was my 2nd outing to the Pine Nuts- having done Siegel/Galena in 2009.

If you hit this page looking for the Lyon Peak in the Granite Chief wilderness, that peak is here.

It took me almost an hour to travel the 9.5 miles from the end of the pavement to the Como Ghost Town- I would have been better off with a higher clearance 4wd but my Outback made it.

The Northern Tahoe snowcaps are visible in the distance.

Lyon is the leftmost peak on the ridge. Heading directly up and following the ridge probably would have been a shorter route- but there was a mining road on the Topo that looked like it got within a mile of the summit and thats the route I opted for.

P01 = "Old Como Road".

Kind of hazy and overcast all day today. It was quite warm tho- in the 80s when I started and in the 60's when I returned in the early evening.

In retrospect, not sure why I opted to take this spur road- it ended up adding a half-mile/mile to my outing.

The spur road followed the power lines for a bit and then switched back to gain the minor ridge above the road. First good look at Lyon from here.

Spotted the road I wanted to be on down at the bottom of the hill so it looked like I needed to give up some hard earned elevation.

Was somewhat surprised to see water flowing.
