The next generation of pines were mostly around 4-5 feet in height. The burned trunks and cones of the original pines still were present amidst the new growth.

There were a number of oak filled grassy fields amist the chaparral. They apparently let cows graze here, as there were dried cow pies all over the place.

With all the recent rain, I was hoping for more wildflowers. However, these purple ones were the only species in bloom.

The trailsigns in the wilderness were in horrible shape and this one was typical of the bunch.

I was pleasantly suprised to find water though even with all the rains, there was only a trickle. Chugged my remaining water and refilled my bottle.

Chapparal covered Machesna Mountain now filling the horizen, but the trail would turn left to follow the ridge rather than heading straight up the peak.
