Topo and GPS tracks of today's ~10 mile outing south from Ebbetts Pass along the PCT (GPX here)
This was my first trip to Ebbetts Pass in a couple of years, doing the trip north to Reynolds Peak in 2004.

The PCT trailhead is slightly over the pass itself and was a bit soggy. There were 2 cars in the lot but I wouldn't see anyone all day. (I would see tracks in the snow for the PCT portion of the hike)

Trailhead sign (0.2 miles to the PCT) at the end of the parking lot

I was expecting scree and snow travel today (and my ankle was a bit sore from Wednesday) so I wore the full ankle wrap today.

Junction of the spur trail to the parking lot and the PCT proper. Already skirting a number of snow fields.

I headed out to a small clearing to allow my GPS to lock onto the satellites. The clearing had a nice view of Ebbetts Peak back to the west. Last comment 08/19/2008.

An early view of Noble Canyon and Highland Peak beyond. The trail veered south here and began the long descent into the canyon.

I quickly swapped out the hiking pole for my ice axe as the trail headed into near continuous sloped snowfields. A lone set of footprints preceded me and helped with the routefinding.

Crossing a open snowfield. There was a bit of an icy crust on the snow which would turn into a wet slush as the day wore on.
