Back to the high plateau below Patterson a hour and a couple miles later. Was on the fence about trying to hit South Sister today. Had about 4-5 hours of sunlight and ample water, but I was wary about being out at dusk w/ it being opening night of deer season.

Followed the mining road north along the ridge for a mile or so. A father/son team was doing the Patterson/South Sister traverse on ATVs. The peak on the horizen is about midway between the two peaks.

Got to the mining claim at the midpoint and got a good look at the remainder of the traverse. Wimped out and decided to leave South Sister for another trip.

The peak NE of patterson didn't even get an elevation notation on the USGS quad. I opted to cut across to the north of this peak rather than following the mining road back.

The ground cover turned back to scrub from scree as the elevation dipped below 11k. Lobdell Lake visible in the distance.

The mining road was dead ahead, but required traversing this ravine (the walls of which were much steeper than they looked from a distance)
