The junction of the High Peaks and Juniper Canyon trails. The high peaks were still clouded in. All downhill from here to the west side ranger station.

I headed up the northern wilderness trail for a few miles as it followed the chalone creekbed northward. It soon became apparent that I wasn't going to be able to complete the whole loop and still make it back by the time the park closed, so I turned around and headed back to the west entrance.

Chalone creek heading under a bridge just upstream of the Balconies Caves. The caves were flooded and closed so I had to take the alternate high route.

One of the dozen or so Chalone Creek crossings, which got deeper as I headed downstream. (Thus, I added soggy shoes to my list of rain soaked articles of clothing).
