 Pinyon Peak, Ventana Wilderness
The nondescript Bear Mountain summit. This is where I turned back on my first trip. About 3/4 (crow flies) miles to Pinyon, which translated into about 1 to 1/2 trail miles.

Looking up at Pinyon from Bear. (Right of center). The summit is the left highpoint, the old fire lookout is on the right highpoint. Not sure why Peak 3795 (left) didn't get named but the relativly unimpressive Bear did.

The trail descended to the right side of the Pinyon/Bear saddle, crossed an incredibly overgrown thicket, and then switchbacked up the peak. (Again, the left highpoint is the summit, the right the lookout)

Looking up at the peak from near the first switchback. I spent about 10 minutes trying to find the trail before realizing that it switched back. (Creating even more of a use trail continuing past the swithback)

The switchbacks got less overgrown as they ascended (though at one point I just said the hell with it and skipped a switchback by heading directly upslope). This shot is atop the ridge and the lookout tower is on the horizen.

The Pinyon summit (left) and the old lookout structure (right). Headed over to the summit first before backtracking to the tower. Spent awhile looking for the summit register on the summit before giving up and then finding it later at the lookout.

My camera shutter got a twig stuck in it and jammed and I took a couple shots before realizing it. (The Pinyon panorama shot got ruined by this, but you can look at the component shots in the subalbum at the end). This shot is the remains of the foundation of the old lookout tower.

3 entries in the registry, all from the initial trailblazing party 2 years and 1 day earlier.
