 Postholing Pimkolam
The snow was high enough that I was looking down into the edge of the roof.

Every peak should have a cot. Signed the registry and had a bite to eat. I was the first entry in 05, the last visitor had been up on 12/28 and had also encountered substantial snow.

The remains of a structure (another lookout tower?) on the far side of the summit. The rock on the back left has a USGS marker. Pacific Ocean on the horizen.

Heading down the slope on the far side of the peak for a look at the traverse over to Pinyon/Bear. The sun was out now and I was starting to posthole.

Looking north towards the Ventana Ridge. "The window" for which the Ventana was named is visible on the horizen a little left of center. (Between the double top of Ventana Double Cone and Kandlbinder. Pico Blanco is to the left of Kandlbinder)

The postholing put an end to my remaining ambitions to making it to Pinyon on this outing, but did head over to take a look at the traverse. The snow actually made the old fire break stand out along the ridge, and it didn't look all that bad. Incredibly clear day today (All the rains seem to have cleared the crap from the air). Think that is Soledad and Pinnacles NM in the distance on the far left of the shot. The snow capped Sierras were visible on the horizen, though it didn't come out in the picture.

Heading back down, the trail was a mess and I was postholing more and more as the temperature rose.

This section of trail was probably the worst. Lots and lots of fallen branches and trees temporarily bowed over onto the trail by the weight of the snow.
