The Sunset Lakes and Wet Meadow region to the west- only 2 direct miles away.  I thought about trying to take the class 2-3 west slope back down, but opted to stick with the trail given the late hour.

Back to the Raymond Lake.  The slope was just as much of a slog down as it had been up as the soil was too hard to heel step down.

One last look across the blueish waters of Raymond Lake.  Unlike many Sierra Lakes, this one did not have a dam at the outlet.

I skipped one of the switchbacks on the return trip as the terrain through the pine forest wasn't particularly steep and was completely devoid of ground vegetation.
