Topo and GPS tracks for the ~4 mile, ~2400ft gain trek up to Rubicon Peak. I had failed to summit Rubicon 2 weeks ago due to the snow and this was a followup attempt.

I dropped my pack (w/ my GPS) before attempting the summit block, so the tracks do not include the final leg. (Which looped around the summit and scaled it from the southwest)

This is my 10th peak off of the Tahoe OGUL list.

Rubicon from the trailhead.

Much better weather on this outing. I didn't take many pictures of the approach hike on this outing- it was a steep climb on a well defined use trail through unremarkable pine forest. (See my first trip album for pics of the trail)

Looking down at the lake on the approach hike. (Probably could have picked a view w/o the dead tree on the left)

Flattish section before starting the steeper last mile.
Snow was visible near the summit, but it had mostly melted out since my earlier trip. Only avoidable patches remained.

The summit stayed out of view behind the trees until the very end. By this point the use trail had hooked around to the north side of the peak.

A final snowfield before the summit block. I first tried climbing up to that window on the left.

That gave me a nice view down to South Lake Tahoe and over to Jakes Peak on the ridge. However, the climb to the summit from the window was beyond my tolerance for exposure.

I headed right and (not realizing it at the time) looped all the way around to the south end of the summit block. There I found a mostly unexposed class 2-3 shelf that allowed access to the knife edge summit ridge.

Topping out on the summit ridge. The high point appeared to be on the far north end.
