Continuing the long 8 mile trek toward the McKinley Saddle. The road was in good shape and most of it would have traversable via a passanger car.

Turning east again and the sun dipped behind the ridge giving me some much appreciated shade. The hillsides were peppered with blooming yuccas.

Looking back at Cachuma Mountain. The road passing in front of the peak and along the ridge is clearly visible. It got increasingy hazy as the day progressed.

A grove of new growth pines and the charred remains of some of the prior generation. Very little pine growth along the trail thus far.

McKinley Springs campsite. The horse trough (near side) was overflowing and the spring collector (far side) had ample water. It is my understanding that this spring is perennial. Noone home at the campsite.
