Topo and GPS tracks of today's ~10mi, 3000ft gain outing to Siegel and Galena, the highpoints (along with Como and Oreana) of the Pine Nut Mountains.

There are undoubably much easier ways up this mountain than the route I took.
This was my 16th OGUL peak.

Last week, I attemted to follow Pete Yamagata's Route A and gave up after wandering around on the maze of ORV ranch roads for 2 hours.

I went back and took this route out Pine Nut and Lone Pine Canyon Roads, stopping about 1mi short of the north end of the Siegel ridge as the road conditions deteriorated beyond what I was comfortable doing in my outback.

While on the summit, I noted an ORV road leading to the Galena Saddle and Oreana Peak.
Not sure how one accesses that road, but that would be substantially easier than this or either of Pete's routes.

Looking up at the ridge from the approach road. Siegel is about a half mile beyond what appears to be the highpoint on the right. I possibly could have started directly up the slope from here, but opted to follow the road to its apex.

At the top, the road passed through this grassy and partially marshy meadow.

This appeared to be the highpoint, so I turned right and started up the slope. On the return trip I'd angle a bit further north to avoid the steeper terrain I encounterd on the south slope.

Onward and upward. Looked for a use trail, but didn't find anything other than possible deer runs.

I soon got high enough to get a nice view across Carson Valley to Jobs/Freel/Jobs sister, which I had climbed yesterday.

Very dry on the slope and an enormous amount of fuel wood/pinecones on the ground. The terrain kept pushing me west (right) on the ascent.
