~8.5 mile outing for today from the Park Hq (bottom left) to the Page Mill Site (right) and the top of the Doherty Ridge (top) This was my first outing since breaking my ankle 11 weeks ago.

Hit the park right as the ranger was opening up shop for the morning. I had hoped the redwood canyon would offer a break from the heat, but it was ~85 when I started and in the high 90's/low 100's when I got back.

Left: A banana slug hanging out near the trailhead (I would see a couple of these over the day) Right: My injured ankle sporting a brace and the shoes I was wearing when I broke it.

The trail took an immediate switchback and started steelpy climbing the ridge. I didn't notice it on the way out, but I wasn't enjoying the grade on the return trip.

Traveling the canyon sidewall on the way up the ridge. This type of trail tends to be slightly angled in the direction of the slope. On sections (such as this) when the ridge was on my right my injured ankle overpronated a bit and was more uncomfortable than when the ridge was on the left.

Looking up at the one of the early redwood groves. Uncharacteristically humid out and getting hotter as I climbed the ridge.

Junction with the Summit Trail at the top of the first ridge. The next mile was a light downhill as the trail decended toward trail camp.
