Unofficial Happy Camp, complete with grill and frying pan. Happy Camp was up out of the redwood canyon and swarming with mosquitos.

Lost the trail coming out of Happy Camp. The only tree tag near happy camp made it appear that the trail headed up the ridge, so I headed up the slope thinking that I was on the lower part of Kandlbinder. When I topped out I was disappointed to find that I was one ridge short of the window. (Kandlebinder is the slope on the left side of this shot)

Looking back at the Skinner Ridge from the minor ridge above Happy Camp. Bottchers Gap is on the left and I think Mt Carmel is the highpoint on the horizen. After decending back to Happy Camp, I pulled out my map and figured out what went wrong. The trail actually continued to follow the stream out of the camp, and some souting in that direction uncovered the redemtion of the trail tread and more yellow trail flags. I was hot and tired (it was 90+ out and I was wearing heavy bushwhacking clothes) so I decided to leave the last ~2 miles and 2500ft elevation for another time.

Back at the Little Sur. I had taken a side trail (marked in red on the topo) that Paul had told me about. This shortcut bypassed Fox camp and saved distance, but was very overgrown and only had a faint tread left.

The forest canopy reflected in the mirror smooth waters of the Little Sur river. Much lower water levels this trip.

A calm section of the Little Sur. Took my time on the way back getting a look at scenery that I had passed in the dark on the way out.

This is the crossing that caused me to turn back on my last trip. Still not rock hoppable, but not bad today.
