Was looking for a warm-up for next week's trip to Montana, so I decided to join the first day of the 2003
Sierra Challenge organized by Bob Burd.
Left work around 5 and headed out to Bridgeport, CA via Tioga Pass. The turnoff to the trailhead is 5 miles south of Bridgeport on highway 395. Followed forest road 142 the 8 or so miles to where it ended at the Green Creek Campground.
Hit the trail a little after 6 and spent a bit under 12 hours in the backcountry, covering 20 miles and about 5000ft in elevation gain. Wasn't feeling up to a summit attempt, so I turned back after scaling about half of the peak. Got back to the trailhead around 6 and headed back to the Bay Area via the 5 hour drive through Sonora Pass.

Green Creek Campground, Site #4. ( link) Got in around 11:30 and grabbed the last available site. It was warm, and I ended up using the tent as a pillow rather than setting it up. The site was right across the road from the creek and there was close to a full moon this evening. Viewed: 223 times.
