Topo and GPS tracks for two quick summits near Luther Pass on this dreary summer day in Tahoe. The morning was a 4mi/1700ft class 2 walkup of Waterhouse Peak from Luther Pass. The afternoon was a 2.5mi/1000ft class 3 scramble of Pickett Peak.

Waterhouse is my 13th OGUL Peak. I had originally intended on doing Hawkins as well, but the looming rainstorm shortened my plans.

Parked at the Luther Pass turnout on Hwy 89. (Just beyond marshy Grass Lake)

There was a paved road leading out from the pass. From the Topo, I think this is the road leading down to 88. (Maybe the original route before the highway was put in)

A use trail diverged from the road about 50 yards in and headed south skirting the end of the lake. I swung too far south on the uphill leg and ended up having to plow through some most unpleasant vegetation.

The lowest portion of the Waterhouse were the steepest and on my uphill leg they were covered with some chest high woody vegetation. To make matters worse the skeeters were out in droves.

The whole route was fairly uninteresting- just steep uphill through typical Tahoe pine forest.

The slope grew slightly less steep as the summit approached. Found a number of deer runs, but didn't see anything one could really call a use trail.

Uphill, Uphill, Uphill. No respite from the skeeters until the very summit itself.

The east side of the slope below the summit still had a little bit of snow. But it was melting fast.
