The road continued up to the top of the ridge, but I opted to angle to the right to avoid some needless elevation gain at the expense of slightly rockier terrain.

Back on the road starting the switchbacks up to the summit. Starting to feel the elevation a bit and there was a strong easterly wind that made the east switchbacks easier and the west switchbacks much harder.

Topping out on an intermediate ridge but still several more switchbacks to the summit. Passed the Korean group that had been making noise at the trailhead. They were not faring well with the elevation.

The last switchback overshot the the peak by a fair amount to maintain its automobile grading and I opted to bypass it and scree scramble directly up.

At about 14,100ft I had a major bout of double vision but it subsided with a bit of rest. I didn't have any other AMS symptoms and I was only a short distance from the top so I opted to stick it out.

Looking west down toward Big Pine. It was 100 degrees down in the valley and some of the haze is probably due to the distant LA and Yosemite fires.
