The JMT trail junction. Ascending trail leads to Whitney, decending trail leads toward Crabtree meadow. Dropped my pack here and headed up to the summit with just a hiking pole.

Panorama looking west over the broad Whitney summit. Only faint traces of clouds in the sky and no sign of the coming storm. (And yes, I did manage to get two guys taking a leak in my summit panorama, sigh)
