Day hike to Kaiser Peak, George Lake, Twin Lakes, and Potter Pass
Topo map of the area
Ever since my
unpleasant trip Kaiser in March I'd been meaning to take do a followup and give the area a another chance. My second trip went substantially better and I had my most enjoyable outing of the season. The weather was near perfect, the Kaiser high country is stunning, and the mosquitos left me alone.
Left around 5:00am for the ~4 hour drive to the trailhead. I had originally planned on just doing the 11 mile out-and-back to Kaiser Peak, but was feeling good and added the extra loop around the high country lakes through Potter Pass. The lakes were quite senic and I found myself wishing I had brought my pack for a full moon overnight stay.
All of the elevation gain was covered on the initial ascent to Kaiser Peak, leaving a nice gradual decent for the remainder of the trip.
Was back at the trailhead around 4 and headed back to Mountain View with quick stop for dinner at a Shaver Lake diner.
Trailhead parking lot at the end of Deer Creek Lane near the D&F pack station. The Kaiser Loop trailhead is to the left of the stables and the Potter Pass trail begins toward the back. No snow at the trailhead :)

Another shot of the trailhead sign. Pretty bright out and no hope of getting a shot with both the tree and the sky exposed properly.

The trail soon met up and followed Deer Creek for a bit before turning eastward toward College Rock

Another shot of Huntington Lake from about 8700f ft. The High Sierra Regatta was being held on the lake (See this article from the Fresno Bee) so there were lots of boats on the lake.

Above the treeline and first view of the summit. Had planned to stop at College Rock, but got it mixed up with the subsequent ridge and passed it w/o stopping. Small patch of snow still haning in there near the summit.
