I concur with what Jill has said to you. I too am so thankful for you sharing your story...which is encouraging for me. I actually broke my foot. This is now 13 weeks since my 2nd surgery. I hope you realize how inspiring your words are to us. You have a fan. Mary

Thanks for putting your ankle story here. I broke my ankle 4 weeks ago requiring 11 screws and a plate. I was sitting here wondering if I would ever go hiking again...I'm 49 years old and my youngest son is now 7 which means for the first time in 21 years, our whole family can hike together! (I've always had babies/toddlers in tow). And then my ankle broke, putting a wrench into the hiking plans. After doing a quick search on "broken ankle, hiking" I found your blog. THANK YOU so much for your encouraging report and your testimony that one CAN resume a (somewhat) normal regime after an ankle break. Right now, given my uncomfortable and limited range of motion, I needed to hear that! -Jill

I'm thinking that fishing requires patience and the ability to sit still- neither of which are skills that I possess in any great quantity. :)

Nice list, but a few of those hikes promise little -- if any -- trout fishing. Rather than publicly ridicule you for your odd choices, we'll simply ask: what are you thinking?

Rick, the Lost Coast outing will be toward late spring. I'm also hopefully planning to do either the JMT or the TRT in September. I'll send you a note as my plans firm up.

Let me know when you are heading for Lost Coast Trail. Maybe I could join you.

And any other of the physically demanding routes.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Oh man. For all too many weekends this past year, I have failed to get out. Sometimes I am just so busy that I do not have time to get it together to go out for a hike. And when I miss a Saturday on the trail, I feel like I really missed out and life is passing me by. I like my job and the interactions with people that I have at work but sometimes I wish I were retired already so I could go out and hike and do photography whenever I want. I don't think I would get tired of it!
